Audience Feedback

FEEDBACK ON MUSIC VIDEO

Music Video Feedback Continued

From this feedback we learnt that our story to some audiences was not clear. The storyline also was a bit dull as the interviewee felt more could've happened. There also seems to be not enough interaction/ connection between the two main characters which alienates the viewer and doesn't make the story believable; it doesn't engage them

Music Video/ Ancillary texts Feedback

Digipak- Interior Design

This piece above is our original digipak interior without the magazine and the front cover.

Evaluation:

This is originally the inside of the CD however the front cover and the magazine have not been included as they're still being constructed.
We decided to stick with the theme of nature throughout the whole digipak as it links with the main theme of coming of age in the lead single 'As We Are Now'
The interior of the Digipak has a white background, with this we tried to connote innocence/purity which links to 'growing up'

Audience Feedback for Video and Digipak

Our Questions

The Responses

Evaluation for our audience feedback on the music video and digipak

  • Following forms and conventions allowed audiences to instantly recognize the indie genre
  • The music video was not liked by some because they did not like the type of music or genre, but for those who did like it, you could see that they were surprised by how good it was - seen by their responses
Positives
  • Indie fans liked the video and digipak
  • Everyone who answered the question about the digipak had a positive response and they feel it works really well with branding our artist
  • Audiences instantly recognized it was an indie genre
  • The editing/filters were praised by a few people
Negatives
  • The music is for a niche market and therefore so is the video - unfortunately for this reason, the people that don't like indie music, they did not like the video
  • An audience member wrote 'Looks Cheap' and therefore the not so great visual quality affected whether people liked it

Back cover - Digipak

Upon designing the back cover, we decided that we were going to stick to the flower theme, and therefore used that on the back of the cover. Over that we used a text box in order to write the song names, in a list

Experimenting for the Album cover -digipak

After deciding that we were all happy with the artwork (lungs and flowers), we experimented on different types of backgrounds.
Firstly, we chose the title font and position, as well as the font for the artist and position.

We then began to change background styles, and we are still deciding on which one to choose

Designing the front cover - digipak

We decided to stick to the lungs, with the flowers.
The following was created.

Technical difficulties

  • It took long to figure out how to merge the flowers into the lung picture
We will now work on the typography

Creating the album cover - digipak

Upon designing the Digipak, we agreed that Algwyne would be the one to design/use the photo shop as he has experience using it upon taking a Graphic Design class. Rishi and Oliwia would pitch in ideas and as a group, ultimately create the digipak
We decided to try a skull (using the bone/rib cage theme) with flowers (using the nature theme) inside of it.
However we agreed as a group that it would not work for our artist and we wanted to stick with our original idea - a rib cage
Instead we decided to use this as the inside cover of our digipak as it fits with the nature theme

Inspirations for DigiPak Cover

For our DigiPak cover we looked/researched existing album artwork which covered the theme of flowers/nature

John Legend's album cover, used a very minimalist approach. He has a dirty white background colour, with three flowers coming out from the side. The flowers are red and therefore connote love and lust. This therefore works with his music as his songs are slow r&b, about love and heartbreak.

Beyonce's Rise Up song, has the artwork from the animated film epic. The character shown on the front cover is the character Beyonce uses her voice for. The cover is bright and eye catching. The flowers in the cover are at the back of the cover yet they dominate it.

Another John Legend artwork is for the song 'Who Do We Think We Are Ft. Rick Ross' the song is taken from the album shown above. He therefore uses the same theme of flowers. In this cover there is a close up of a flower which is distorted; there is also a piece ripped out. The artwork has a grey filter over it making the vibrant red colour a  more dull one. The artwork connotes heartbreak, sadness and gives a sense of gloominess, which is also the feeling you get when listening to the song therefore the artwork works for that particular song.

Passenger's album cover for 'All the little lights' is what seems to be a drawn bush with a tree. Inside the bush there are little shiny lights which is literally showing 'The little lights' connected with the album name.
The sky is a dark blue which sets the mood of a relaxed, night time...etc
Passenger's songs are slow, and instrumental which once again works really well with the relaxing album cover.

Another album cover which uses flowers is Sleater- Kinnery. Again a very minimalist art piece with a dirty white background and a bunch of wilted flowers. The cover gives a feeling of lifeless and connotes a sense of 'giving up'.
However it looks great with the dirty white background and the album name/artist in black... capitals at the top.

This album cover by Sonic Youth, uses nature as a main theme of the artwork. It is unusual with two girls underneath a blue net who are in a bush of small leaves. You are able to see the sky in between the trees which is neither bright or dull. It is more in the middle, a simple white sky. The trees have bright green leaves.

Shooting- 17/12/14

On the 17/12/14 we decided to re-shoot the narrative aspect of our music video, as we believe that the narrative footage we did have was not enough compared to the performance shots.
Unfortunately we could not get hold of the original actress, therefore we chose a new one, and decided to re- shoot all the narrative shots.

Location - Golders Green/High Street
Actress -Cooney

We decided to use Golders Green as the high street was the perfect location and Algwyne the performer knew the area well.

we decided to use this cafe as a vital location for the narrative; this is because stereotypically cafes are a place couples go to, and therefore using a couple in our narrative worked well

What went well?
  • Timming went well, as we started early and finished in time
  • We got extra footage, and some improvised shots so if we feel that a particualr shot doesn't work during editing then we still have other footage to use
What did'nt go well?
  • The weather made the day look dull, so some footage looks dull
